Sounds waves
Georgia Performance Standard
S8P4-Students will explore the wave nature of sound and electromagnetic radiation.
d. Describe how the behavior of waves is affected by medium (such as air, water, solids).
e. Relate the properties of sound to everyday experiences.
f. Diagram the parts of the wave and explain how the parts are affected by changes in amplitude and pitch.
Sound travels in waves, similar to the waves you see on a body of water.
Small amount of energy
Waves in the water come in many sizes. Some are very small like you see on a lake on a calm day. This would represent a very quiet sound.
Large amount of energy
Others waves are enormous like the oceans during a hurricane. The larger the wave the more energy it has. This would represent a very loud sound.
